Google PageRank Update - How To Improve It ?

There are lot of questions asked about how to improve Google Pagerank. Most people wondering how can suddenly their pagerank drop from PR4 to PR0, and how eventually the PR0 blog jump up to PR3. One of the blogger who facing the situation is Roseate, where you can read about it here.

Its weird to see how changes on Pagerank. A lot of speculations going through, while most blog owner digg the problem to see the major course this thing happen to their blog.

Roseate also have her own conclusion on what was actually happen when her blog PR suddenly drop drastically. Here is what she has to say...

Google Is Driving Me Crazy In It’s PageRank Strategy !!!

After my PageRank went to PR0 from PR3 at this blog, I realized it was because of the sponsored posts, then I knew that google is not against paid posts, but they want us to add “re=nofollow” to them and it’s ok …. So I did so, added nofollow to all my sponsored posts, as google said that it’s ok to pay for a post to get traffic or noticed, but not to build a PageRank! ….. Then my dear Google was kind enough and gave me a PR2 !!! … I was like “TWO!!! Mmmm ok … no prob …. the next update will be better” …. But guess what, as usual and expected from google “expected by me!” that was the last PR I got, the next update and the following ones “god know how many updates they were!!” I never got anything, a PR0 my blog is now and I think it will stay that way as I can’t guess what my dear Google saw wrong at my blog to do so!!!

P.S. Although my traffic is increasing, and my blog is doing well (not that much affected by PR) … but I would prefer to get a PR, as all of the bloggers and webmasters are going crazy about it, and everyone is being “proud” by having a PR this or PR that!!!

SEO Guidelines - Important Search Engine Optimization Tips

SEO, formally known as Search Engine Optimization, is a way of developing or reconstructing the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via the usual and normal search result. It involves putting up and designing a website so that search engines will find the pages and index them in no time.

Most of the time, when someone surfs the internet and look for a certain topic on a search engine, the ones that are on the first page of the search results list are more visited. Through SEO, it will definitely target various kinds of search like image search, local search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

Do you want to put your website in the high ranking? Here are some tips you have to consider:

Website Optimization = Content + Links = High Ranking

1. How Google Measures Link Popularity

Higher link popularity scores = Higher search engine ranking
Link popularity is by far the most important factor for determining your search engine ranking. You need to know what link popularity is, why it is so important, and how Google measures your link popularity (over 50% of all search engine traffic comes from Google, and if you can get to the top of Google, you will raise to the top of the others search engines as well).

Link popularity - the number of links (votes) that SE have for your site.
Here is a link for a good tool that measures the link popularity from SE’s. It shows you the link popularity from Google Yahoo and MSN and lets you to see the history report so you to figure out the rise of your site.

2. Articles

Consistency is the key. It is a fact that as more and more articles are added to article directories, your article will go lower in the listings, but if you constantly and consistently submit new articles, then you will continue to reap the benefits. Making articles is a great way to build up the link popularity of your website. It gives you life-time links.

  • Always close your articles off with a link to your site which is relevant to the copy of the article. Hyperlink the keyword with your url. For example:

    Author Bio:
“Johnny Brown is an expert in affiliate marketing. Visit his site for more online marketing tips.”

  • 3. Control Your Words<

"Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts".

This does not apply to our situation. In the Meta Tags, you must count every word and every keyword. Use a tool like this one to count the characters from your Meta tags.

    4. Optimize the Title Tag

  • Include 1-2 of your most important keyword phrases in the title tag, but don’t just list keywords.

  • If you just list keywords, you risk being viewed as spamming the search engines which can ultimately lead to you being blacklisted and not included at all.
  • Your title tag should include your keyword phrases within a readable sentence to avoid this problem.

  • Make your title appealing to humans!

  • Don’t forget that even if you get that top listing in the search engines, our listing still needs to say something that makes the surfer want to click your link and visit your site.
  • Since the length of your title tag could cause some engines to crop it, we suggest place the keywords at the beginning of the tag when possible to decrease the risk of having them cut off.

  • Each page of your site should have its own title tag with its own keywords that relate to the page that it appears on.

    5. Optimize the Meta Description Tag

  • Give appropriate descriptions (as some search engines display this description in the search result), make it more appropriate to your site. Put only targeted keywords in description. Do not stuff the description with more keywords. Restrict the number of words in this tag to 10 to 15 words.

  • Place the most important phrases at the start of the description, so, even if any search engine omits some part of the description, the important phrases will be displayed.

  • 6. Optimize the Meta Keywords Tag

The importance of Meta Tags is debated these days. So this is an optional extra.

  • Include only the keywords that appear in the body text, and no more than 5-7 keywords. Add alternate spelling of words (including typos) and synonyms of those keywords.

    Looking To Increase Your Backlink?

There are many ways to get a backlink from other site in other to improve your SEO. One of the most popular method used by blogger is commenting on the site which have do-follow link.

But how easy can you find those blogs who has that feature? Or maybe you already have your list of site which has do-follow feature. Actually its pretty easy if you know the tricks.

The easiest way to currently identify a blog that has do-follow links in their comments is the presence of an image that says “U Comment, I Follow”, like the one pictured below.

Now, the catch with these has historically been that there’s been no central repository of participants. Since it is an image, you cannot simply search Google for it either, as Google cannot read the text.

    The Method
It has been discovered that a lot of the blogs use a relatively static “alt” text. Now, while most search engines themselves do not search alt text in their standard results, image searches are entirely different matter.
By searching Google Image Search (or other image searches) for “U Comment I Follow” (with quotes is more accurate, but without quotes gives more results), we can pull a substantial list of do-follow blogs. By appending your given keyword(like “seo”), you can get more targeted blogs.
In addition, searching for “U Comment” or “I Follow” separately bring up a lot more results.

It’s More Accurate Than You Think
For whatever reason, most of the images Google returns for the above searches are not the images of the “U Comment, I Follow” project. However if you visit most of the sites listed, they actually DO have the image showing they’re a part of the project, Google just doesn’t return that as the search result. Odd, I know

    Other Variations on the Method
Alt tags are not the only footprint available for this. It also uses relatively predictable image names.
You can search for these either using the inurl: command, or searching for the filename itself.

    ifollowblue.gif, ifollowgreen.gif, ifollowpink.gif, ifollowpurple.gif, ifollowltgreen.gif, ifolloworange.gif, ifollowwhite.gif,
    ifollowmagenta.gif
    ifollow.(gif/png/jpg, take your pick)
    utrackback_ifollow.gif
    ifollow-red.png
    inurl:ucomment
    inurl:ifollow

There’s a million more, so try and find them. They’re worthwhile if found within your niche.

However you might want to check to http://www.untwistedvortex.com

Choose SEO via Google Webmaster Guidelines

Every now and then I find it useful to look and see what Google has to say to webmasters about their websites. It's been years since I was last in here and I'm amazed by the amount of new content Google has added to their webmaster helps.

One thing to keep in mind whenever reviewing information put out by the search engines is that the engines have a vested interest in being selfish. Sure, they want to be helpful, but at the same time the information they provide comes with a very distinct bias as to what will ultimately help them.

That doesn't make the advice bad, it just means we need to learn to sift what is really important from what Google wants us to think is important.

Today I want to revisit Google's Guidelines for selecting an SEO provider. Let's take them point by point and I'll provide my own analysis. You can click the link above if you want to read Google's expanded explanations.

Be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that send you email out of the blue.
Not all unsolicited emails are bad. I think it's a shame that email marketing has gotten such a bad rap, however I will admit it is mostly deserved. The danger with this kind of solicitation is that they are usually sent from SEOs that have done little or no research and are just pounding out slightly customized mass emails.

Typically these emails claim that your site "isn't ranking" or "could not be found" on the search engines. Of course, it begs the question how they found you order to send you that email. Often the claims will be legitimate in a very narrow context, stating they could not find you when searching for a particular keyword that may or may not be relevant or valuable to you.

Keep a healthy dose of skepticism when reading these emails. Most of the time you're better off just deleting them any way. But the same time, these emails are not all from spammers. Google's advice here to be wary is sound.

No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.
I've blogged enough over the years debunking the myth of guaranteed rankings, so there is no need to go into it all here. There are things that SEOs can guarantee, but rankings are not one of them, outside of pay-per-click campaigns. However, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't expect results either.

Avoid any SEO that offers ranking guarantees. There is usually enough small print that allows them out of any type of refund or continued service. On the other hand satisfaction guarantees our something that SEOs can provide, if they are willing.

Be careful if a company is secretive or won't clearly explain what they intend to do.
SEOs that won't share their processes with you need to be avoided at all cost. There really are no SEO secrets, just different strategies that can be employed. Any SEO you are dealing with should freely share their strategies with you and they should be able to give you comfort that they won't engage in activities that are likely to get your site penalized by the engines.

The better informed you are as a client, the healthier relationship you'll have with your SEO. And knowing what strategies they'll be implementing will help you keep your expectations in line with the results as well.

You should never have to link to an SEO.
You should never have to link to anybody, period. This includes directories that exchange a listing for a link, suppliers, agents, etc. Don't get yourself in a deal where a link is required to be maintained at all times.

With that said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with anybody requesting that you place a link to their site, and doing so may be mutually beneficial. But linking from your website to another should always be a choice, and you should do it only when it is of benefit to your site visitors.

When you lose control of who you link to because of the deals you make, you can often times find yourself associating with some less than reputable websites. The last thing you want is for the search engines to ding you quality points because of your shady associations.

    Choose wisely.
Doing your research is important, especially when you'll be investing thousands of dollars over several months for any marketing effort. There are a lot of companies out there that sound real good, say all the right words, but when push comes to shove they just don't have what it takes.

One of the most important aspects of choosing an SEO is not just knowing if they can do the job, knowing they operate their business ethically. I don't believe in "SEO ethics", but I do believe in business ethics. Your SEO should be upfront with you about what they are doing and why, and what kind of benefit you should expect from them. They should also let you know if any of their optimization strategies will bring any potential harm to you.

Of course, no one will tell you they operate unethically and unfortunately many people get sucked into paying these companies only to get shafted later on. Do your due diligence research. Find out about the company, and about the people running it. Cost of services is far less important than the potential cost of doing business with a rip-off artist.

Be sure to understand where the money goes.
There are a number of various avenues of online marketing where money can, and likely will be invested. From social media to link building to development of new architecture or content. The goal however, should be the same, to increase your exposure in the search engines and to provide a better user experience in total.

But you should be aware if the SEO is spending money purchasing links, ads or subbing their work out to a company in India. You're paying the bill so you have a right to know what's being done with that money and what results you can expect.

What are the most common abuses a website owner is likely to encounter?
Google provides two main cautions here. The first is to make sure that you own all the work that an SEO does for you. Don't engage in SEO services where you don't have a legal right to all work performed at the end of the contract, including content, pages, domains and links. Anything purchased as part of the optimization campaign should be yours to keep.

The second is the creation of junk pages that serve little or no value to your customers. There is nothing wrong with creating new pages to target specific keywords that are not targeted elsewhere on the site. The creation of these pages, however, must include full integration into the website, professionally written content, and nothing "hidden" that's there for anybody's interest but your own as the site owner.

Google's recommendations are largely sound. Remember, they have a vested interest in keeping their site free of spam and choosing a SEO that is committed to helping you grow your business, as opposed to just achieving search engine rankings, helps them as well.

There is not much here that isn't sound. Google's suggestions are pretty fair and balanced toward the business owner, and not just propaganda that serves their own needs. You'll be better off following these guidelines than not.

The first is as mentioned above, create a great video and share it with everyone you possibly can on the internet. This means posting it to all of your social networking pages, like Facebook and MySpace, as well as posting it to every video sharing site, like YouTube, that you can find. The amount of people that look at the postings on YouTube, alone, is truly staggering. There is such a massive amount of potential publicity to be gained by posting great video content on that site. Informative content, funny content, instructional content; whatever you can offer, be sure to put it into video form and get it onto YouTube in order to increase your online exposure.

You can also use those same types of videos on your own webpage as well as on the sharing sites. Small business marketing online is at least partly about creating a great website that people are going to want to visit and videos can be a big part of that. Create a video tour of your website and post it on the homepage or create a tutorial video for people who buy your product or service. Many find that a video demonstrating that product or service helps in the overall advertising of a product. Have you ever asked that the point of having a business on the Internet if nobody visits?
To keep traffic (visits) to your Web site need to know and implement certain promotion techniques, including the more effective it is “positioning in search engines and directories”

90% of people use search engines to find information on the network and 42% of online sales reach sites through search engines, the concept is simple, you need to appear within the first places in the search engines and directories to get visits and make sales.

Search engines record and store millions of pages with very different topics, their use greatly facilitates the collection of information on the subject that interests us.

For example if we look at www.google.com the word “printers”, as a result we get a huge list of pages related to this product.

At this point I make him a question:
When you do a search or check the Czech beyond the second or third page of results?
    Rarely truth?

Well, most Internet users visiting the first 10 or 20 results so it is important that our website appears in the top positions.
Occupy the top positions in search engines and Internet directories, is the most effective method of promotion, however is not easy because it requires training, research and patience, there are hundreds of companies that offer this service, basically in charge of making the work for you.

Some companies offer automatically register your site in thousands of search engines for the modest sum of $ 100 and offer other position on Google for 90 dollars a month, can be a good investment but most of these companies just take their money, how properly register your site is done by hand more, you will not have to register your site in thousands of search engines only in approximately 7 to 10 since they cover more than 95% of users around the world.

We talk about quality rather than quantity.

What are the major search engines?

The following search engines and directories share information like many others, to register your site in these locations will also appear in thousands of others.

    GOOGLE http://www.google.com
    YAHOO! http://www.yahoo.com

But “Yahoo!” is not a search engine but a directory, the difference is that the directories are structured thematically and depend on human indexed for each URL, for this reason that the high in a directory is a slow process, the search engines use robots or Spiders to create lists automatically and submit results for every search.

What is Most Important For Success in Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

If you are looking to reach achieve good search engine positioning must consider many factors.

    On-page factors and Off-page
Speaking of On-page factors, the content of your pages is important, the position of the keywords in the elements of your Web site are also important, the density of keywords and much more.

When one considers the Off-page factors, the number of links that point to your site is very important, but it is also important to the quality of them and that includes containing your chosen keywords and are from related sites.

All these factors are important. However, there is another factor that is even more important. This single factor determines whether your search engine positioning campaign will be successful or not.

A single factor is more important than all others.
You could have thousands of inbound links with the anchor text “my great product” and your website could be completely optimized for the Keyword “my excellent product.”

It also could be number 1 on Google for the Keyword “my excellent product.” But if people are not appropriate or very few people that are looking Keyword, then your efforts in positioning SEO will be in vain. The most important factor that decides whether you will be successful in positioning are the keywords that chose to promote your Web site.

If you focus on the key words wrong, they lose much time, energy and money.
Do not think you know the answer.

Many webmasters think they really know what the best keywords are for their Web sites. If you do not do an analysis, we were wrong. There are several reasons why this happens:

You know your business better than anyone. You know the terms that are used in your niche and know how you should look for when looking for products such as those selling.

Your customers do not know as much as you. Do not know your terminology and could use totally different keywords.

Do you think the intention of the person you are looking for? Just because it is a much sought Keyword in the search engines does not mean that we will get lots of customers. People who find a site for a very broad keyword might not be interested in buying.

It is very important that you spend the time necessary to find the best keywords. The time and effort they spend in finding appropriate keywords are paying far.
The keywords should be popular, specific, and should be used by people motivated attitude.

    SEO For Beginner

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the technique of increasing the volume of traffic to your website from search engine results. The goal of the optimizer is to get higher rankings on the search engines, preferably in the first few results. Typically search engine users will click on the first few results of a search, especially if their search needs were met with an exact find. Search engine optimization also helps to bring new visitors to sites, even if an exact match was not met during the search, because using SEO techniques will still get your website on the first page of a search.

First we will talk about how it works then we will talk about how we can put into practice.

Search engines use what is called a spider to reach out into the Internet to find new and updated websites. As a page is published, the spider stumbles upon the page depending on what words, images, video or other content is on the page. The spiders don’t actually recognize the images or the videos, they recognize the words in the description of the image or video. When someone does a search that includes these words, the search engine pulls that up in it’s results. These words are called keywords. The more often these keywords are used in a webpage the better chance the search engine will see it and put it up on the results. The more keywords, including combinations of keywords, the higher the page will show up in the search engine ranking.

The spider will look at the Meta tags in a page, description, page title home and links to the site from other websites. You will want a make sure that you stock each of these areas well with keywords but don’t overdo it because the spiders do seem to have a temper and pages do get banned. A 2% to 5% density of keywords is the preferred standard.

This is why the webpage code is so important. Many people spend a lot of time making their webpages look visually appealing to people, but they don’t think about the spiders in the search engines. Spend more time on your web site’s code for search engine optimization and you will find yourself getting high rankings.

So let’s go through some different SEO techniques that will get your webpage the high rankings you desire.

    Title:
This is the name that you can see at the top of the window of your web browser, also called the Title Bar. Make sure that your title is short and clear. It also needs to contain keywords that are relative to your site. There is a good chance that this title is also going to show up in the search engine results, so you want it to be very clear to a reader of the result.

    Keywords:
Let’s say that you have a new or updated website that is a review of the new iPhone. You will want to make sure that “REVIEW” and “iPhone” are in the title, Meta tags, description and body of the page. To be successful with SEO, it is wise to put other key words that are similar but not quite the same as your main key words. Other key words that you may want to think about putting into the page are: TEST, CELL, CELLPHONE, APPLE, etc. These can be considered sub-keywords but they may actually do more of the work of bringing new visitors to your site then the main keywords. As you think up keywords and sub-keywords for your site, use the search engines yourself to see how many other websites are brought up in searches with those words. Come up with different combinations of words and use the combinations that bring out fewer search results. By having a wide variety and volume of key words in your webpage you may very well be the only result when someone uses one of those combinations of keywords in their search. This technique is very successful but many people do not use it. When trying to get new visitors to your site you will want to use as many strategies as possible. Using alternative keywords or sub-keywords is a strategy that you should use for every page just like you use main keywords.

    Meta tags:
There are two parts to the Meta-tag:

    1. The description
    2. Keywords
